We just got back from Greenbelt after joining over a hundred filipinos watch our beloved pacman Manny Pacquiao win over the controversial golden boy Oscar Dela Hoya.
Everyone was cramped patiently tiptoeing over the early birds who secured a much more comfortable position at 2 establishments on the 3rd floor of Greenbelt 3 – National Sports Grill (NSG) and Capriciosa. There were 2 screens setup outside projecting the match.
We were hoping that Italliannis would have the same setup like the last match of pacquiao where we watched and indulged ourselves on italian food – brunch buffet. Unfortunately it wasn’t the case this time – as we move around greenbelt area asking guards where we can watch it live – everyone pointed to greenbelt 2, 3rd floor- NSG and Capriciosa but those places were packed.
Good thing I have a Smart MyTv phone so we knew that we still had time because the undercards were still fighting. We ate at FlapJacks – good stuff guys. I placed my phone on a saucer and we watched in anticipation for the match to start. The good part is it was only around 20 seconds delayed from the actual fight.
When the match started, we were already walking around doing some christmas shopping and I showed it the guards – I could see in their faces that they wanted to abandon their posts and run to gb3 to watch the match. So did them a favor and showed them a few rounds of the match on my phone.
Every time pacman scored a solid hit we could hear gb3 tremble as the crowd went wild screaming OOHs and AAAHs and the occassional Manny! Manny! Manny! As usual, everything stood still when the match started – only a few walked around the malls. We were lucky coz we had the whole mall to ourselves coz we could watch the match on our phone.. he he he…
When we hear the thunderous screams of the crowd we focused on the 3inch lcd screen and waited for the solid hit that was to come 20 seconds after. Needless to say, it was a spectacular fight!
Golden boy Oscar De La Hoya threw in the towel after the 8th round. It was a TKO and his side decided to end the suffering. I listened intently on the interviews after the match and it seems that Oscar is now at peace with the fact that Manny was a true champion. Surprisingly, he did not mention any excuses – it was all praises for our blood brother Manny. The commentator also said that after the match when the two came face to face in the middle of the ring, Manny told Oscar that he is still his idol and Oscar replied that Manny is now his idol. Good sport… but then again, if you think about it – this guy is walking away with millions of dollars (25M – I think) so adding that to the equation its still all about the benjamins baby!!! I’d be all praises to if I walked away a millionaire and my face is still in tact.
