Who loves mushrooms? Hahaha.. not the magic ones from Bridget Jones ok? Its been a while since I last took a scrumptious bite on a mushroom burger. I first tasted this when I was still in high school, I think. Quick trips to tagaytay, sneaking out the car – you know!

I miss the one that used to be at Greenbelt – the old Greenbelt, next to Tokyo Tokyo. If it were still around, that would be mighty convenient. Just a stone throw away – not literally, but if I could throw a stone over a couple of high rise buildings then maybe. Do you still remember the parking lot there? We used to hang out there for a quick smoke after our Monday movie night. Those were the days. There was even a map of the Philippines on a man made lake right smack in the middle of Greenbelt – I think were Greenbelt 2 is now located. Wow! We used to pass by there when we cut classes. Decades ago!

Sorry for that short trip back on memory lane – going back to Mushroom Burger, its amazing how a familiar taste can bring back memories. The taste of this burger has not changed! Its amazing! It really tastes like a legitimate hamburger patty. The closest I could compare it to will be the hamburger from Tropical hut. The burger has a slice of cucumber which makes it very “pinoy”. Remember the burgers from school cafeteria? One good thing about the Mushroom burger is that its healthy – can’t deny that. Normally, if its good for you, it tastes like crap. But this one is an exception – inspires you to eat healthier I guess. They’ve added some new items on their menu – they now have a pinoy mushroom burger which only goes for like 26 pesos, and it has longganiza bits. I tried it also, but I only got hints of the longganiza flavor – who cares. They also have rice meals that range from 70 to 90 bucks -not bad! They have real meat dishes, so for the carnivores – don’t sweat – they got you covered.

To get to Mushroom Burger – Tagaytay, just take your usual route to highlands, opposite the picnic grove. When you exit south super highway via Sta. Rosa, go right – Silang, then you’ll notice the landscape and the weather change. You’ll hit the end of the road where you either turn left (picnic grove) or turn right, take the right and drive straight through the rotonda. You’ll see Mushroom Burger on your left side a few meters after you pass the Casino (*wink) beside McDonalds which are on your right. I’m not good with directions so just swallow your pride and ask directions if you get lost.

The reason I mentioned the Casino is because right after eating 2 juicy Mushroom Burgers – we played Russian Roullete (did I spell it right?) for about an hour. Came in with 500 pesos, left with 800 pesos. Not bad if you just wanted to kill some time. The trick is, again, lowered expectations. Rejoice with every penny you get. “Barya barya lang”.

That’s about it – I put Mushroom Burger under “Classic” in my book of rankings.
