Here’s a couple of photos that was forwarded to me featuring some cool midget cars or mini cars just like the smart cars. What if the bigger brands jump in and make their own versions? Interesting right?

I’m sure that the magic of photoshop had something to do with this (if not, cool!). I don’t mind owning one if ever they manufacture cute little vehicles like this. Hahaha. Enjoy!

Last Friday was the soft opening of the first ever racing simulator in the Philippines. This gaming/motorsports cafe was the brainchild of a good friend of mine – Quincy B. Good job pare! We dropped by last Sunday to check out the place and it was great! Bucket seats, 20 inch lcd monitors, high end gaming consoles and a kick ass racing game – Race07. Lamig ng aircon (*wink)

The game and steering control was pretty close to the real thing. All that’s missing is the smell and the sensation of different forces that throws you around in the real thing.

I’m excited to see more games installed – especially ones that allow you to crash and won’t require you to slow down. When it comes to games – I like it rough! Hahahaha

Anyway, here’s a video of the place – really cool! Oh, and there’s this deli downstairs where you can eat good food and drink an ice cold beer if you wanna take a break from all that driving.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZmWUSV-tJY

The rates:

300/hour 5pm onwards – before 5pm, its 150/hour. Race starts as early as 11am and runs up until 12mn – but if Quincy and his racing buds are there – green light until they leave

Cool thing is that you don’t have to keep racing for one whole hour, if you leave to grab a bite or a drink, your time stops and you can continue later – pretty neat huh. And you can use the same credits to buy drinks and snacks – eventually.

YYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAH!!!! Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao wins over Ricky Hatton in just 2 rounds! The fight was short but AMAZING!!!!

1st round was lightning fast, both boxers threw combinations exhibiting their trademark moves. Again, our pinoy kamao superstar prevailed and knocked out Ricky Hatton twice! I could just imagine every filipino watching jumping up and down.

2nd round Hatton was obviously in survival mode.. a quick jab, some combinations and always ends with a hug. How sweet. This style by Hatton wasn’t bothering our hero Manny… a seamingly harmless right jab followed by a lightning fast left hook smack right on Hatton’s chin and the rest is history – you could just imagine someone shouting “TIMBER!!” and the british tough guy came falling down flat on his back with his arms stretched right above is head – TIMBER!!!!

Whew! I used to think that when a boxing match ends abruptly it lacks showmanship, flair! This match proved me wrong, this was short but the showmanship was spectacular!!!! cliche moment: Sweet and Short

Good Job Mr. Manny Pacquiao. You deserve all the support, attention and glory that everyone in the world is giving you.

Some cool comments I heard during the match:

Best boxer that ever lived, not in the world, not this year, but of all time

Force of nature

Impossible

Everyone should learn from him, even when he’s on top.. he keeps learning

Ad: Party like a rockstar (hahahaha)

Below is the 24/7 special created by HBO for this War of the Worlds match. Now that we know how it ends… watching this again and hearing the comments from Hatton and his camp – hihihihihi… (*wink)

We just got back from Greenbelt after joining over a hundred filipinos watch our beloved pacman Manny Pacquiao win over the controversial golden boy Oscar Dela Hoya.

Everyone was cramped patiently tiptoeing over the early birds who secured a much more comfortable position at 2 establishments on the 3rd floor of Greenbelt 3 – National Sports Grill (NSG) and Capriciosa. There were 2 screens setup outside projecting the match.

We were hoping that Italliannis would have the same setup like the last match of pacquiao where we watched and indulged ourselves on italian food – brunch buffet. Unfortunately it wasn’t the case this time – as we move around greenbelt area asking guards where we can watch it live – everyone pointed to greenbelt 2, 3rd floor- NSG and Capriciosa but those places were packed.

Good thing I have a Smart MyTv phone so we knew that we still had time because the undercards were still fighting. We ate at FlapJacks – good stuff guys. I placed my phone on a saucer and we watched in anticipation for the match to start. The good part is it was only around 20 seconds delayed from the actual fight.

When the match started, we were already walking around doing some christmas shopping and I showed it the guards – I could see in their faces that they wanted to abandon their posts and run to gb3 to watch the match. So did them a favor and showed them a few rounds of the match on my phone.

Every time pacman scored a solid hit we could hear gb3 tremble as the crowd went wild screaming OOHs and AAAHs and the occassional Manny! Manny! Manny! As usual, everything stood still when the match started – only a few walked around the malls. We were lucky coz we had the whole mall to ourselves coz we could watch the match on our phone.. he he he…

When we hear the thunderous screams of the crowd we focused on the 3inch lcd screen and waited for the solid hit that was to come 20 seconds after. Needless to say, it was a spectacular fight!

Golden boy Oscar De La Hoya threw in the towel after the 8th round. It was a TKO and his side decided to end the suffering. I listened intently on the interviews after the match and it seems that Oscar is now at peace with the fact that Manny was a true champion. Surprisingly, he did not mention any excuses – it was all praises for our blood brother Manny. The commentator also said that after the match when the two came face to face in the middle of the ring, Manny told Oscar that he is still his idol and Oscar replied that Manny is now his idol. Good sport… but then again, if you think about it – this guy is walking away with millions of dollars (25M – I think) so adding that to the equation its still all about the benjamins baby!!! I’d be all praises to if I walked away a millionaire and my face is still in tact.

I’ve been quiet for the past 2 weeks and I owe this blog a few more adventures. But before that, I’d like to get this out of the way and post up real quick. This is a partial list because I’m pretty sure that I can add to this almost daily just by watching TV. Anyway, I’ll keep it generic for now.

Are you ready? Here’s my list.

1. Travel the world

I’m sure this is on everyone’s list. Its probably something that I got from my father. He’s proud of this plaque that he hangs on his wall – a certificate stating that he has gone around the world. I envy it the most.

If your not into traveling and exploring new sights and cultures then something is probably wrong with you. Go see a doctor please.

2. Get really good at something and compete on a professional level

Now why is this in my list? Simple. Every man is born with the need to compete whether its in sports or in some other technical field. Thinking back, I always question why I never got into a sport or hobby that I really took to heart and obsessed about to the point where I can do it full time because I’m really good at it. Loser.

I just feel that I’ve been exploring a lot of different hobbies and trying out new things all the time but never committed to it. At this age I wonder what else can I do. Hmmm…

3. Get a Black Belt

You will probably find this one a little to shallow to even make it on a list of things to do with your life. Screw you! Hahaha, just kidding. Its a childhood dream that I can’t seem to let go. If you’re wondering what the hell – black belt – I’m referring to the highest level in some form of Martial Arts. Why not just go out and do it? Is it because I have no time or because I get bored of it after a while? Who knows but anyway – no excuses. So I’m keeping this in my list.

4. Get a Tattoo

A tattoo for me represents something permanent. Something that will always be there and that’s why I want to get one. Plus, its cool. I have a few ideas already but I’m thinking if I should get a really big one or build it up with small ones. I like the idea of having one big piece because it shows a strong message and the quality and theme is consistent. But then, having small ones give you variety in meaning and as we all know, the best tattoos are associated with strong memories. I’d have to think about that.

I want to get tattooed by Yoji Harada of Miami Ink. Hahaha, that will be cool.

5. Do something Extreme

Skydiving, Base jumping, Crocodile wrestling – just to name a few. I’m not serious about the crocodile wrestling but I’m willing to try. I’ll define extreme as something that could possibly be the last thing you do in your life – in short, you can die or seriously injure yourself. I’m probably not going to do as many “extreme” things but at least one.

6. High Roller Night

I’m looking forward to this. The idea is to save an insane amount of money and blow it off in a fancy casino and if I win… I’ll throw a huge party. Yey!

7. Play a Musical Instrument

I’ve tried learning how to play the guitar and I did learn a few songs but its not like I know the chords. As a child, I took a few piano lessons (Thanks Mom!) but I can’t seem to stick to it. If I only knew that playing the piano would be a big hit once you hit puberty then I probably took it seriously. That’s the problem – when you’re young, no one really takes the time to sit you down and explain the benefits of whatever it is that they’re pushing you to do.

Anyway, I’m considering something classy like learning to play the saxophone. Awesomeness.

8. Change Someones Life

This one is a bit corny but I think everyone should have this in their lists. Now just to be clear – change for the better ok, not make it worst.

I don’t think that this is difficult to do but it will require some careful considerations. You know what I mean.

9. Start a Collection

Most of you probably think that everyone has a collection of some sort. I don’t! And I don’t know why. When I was young I had a collection of different currencies – it got stolen. I also tried collecting keychains – got boring after a while. I see some value in this because of the stories you hear about a weird grandpa or uncle that everyone has who prides himself of a certain collection. Its just something that you can show off and pursue when you retire. Essentially, this one can wait but I want to start one soon.

10. Build Something with My Own Two Hands

Now this gravitates towards my need to be creative. I define this as some work of art or even a useful object that I made with my own two hands. When I was in my teens, I built a doll house for my sister – it felt great because her barbie dolls could fit in it. I also built a ramp for rollerblades from old cabinets – I crashed and my parent had it dismantled. Hahaha. Those were the days.

Anyway, I want to sculpt or paint a masterpiece.. or build a tree house. Whatever it is, I want to feel that sense of fulfillment again – something to be proud of.

That’s about it for now. 10 things that I still want to do with in my life. While writing this, I thought of my next entry – What I’ll do with unlimited funds (fun things only) so stay tuned for that one!

This post has been delayed for quite some time.

A while back I posted an entry about a 4 hour endurance race to be held at CityKart, Sucat, June 15…. We did it! Here’s how it went down.

We got there at around 8 in the morning for some pre-race orientation and of course free food! They briefed us on the basic rules and what each flag meant. I will never forget the blue flag – it meant that the person tailing you is leading in laps – so you can’t really fight for the position anymore and have to give way. If you are all fighting in the same lap then that’s a different story – you can keep up the fight. So there, I got so familiar with this flag because it was waved at me a lot. They also told us to try and maintain a lap time of less than 55 seconds to stay competitive – Yeah right! Hahaha, I barely made 57 seconds! But it was all good! Lots of fun! I thought I would give karting a rest for the rest of the year after this – but as I type this post I feel the need… the need for speed.

There were 6 teams – I think. We were the biggest group – 4 drivers. Quincy, Jec, Willie and me. Most of the teams only had 2 drivers – hmmm… come to think of it, all of the other teams only had 2 drivers. And we were 4!

Photos from Quincy

You can split the track into 2 main sections, the indoor and outdoor. We practiced a week before but when we got there on race day – they changed it a bit. In the indoor part of the track, there’s a 2nd floor (neat right?) and to make it more exciting, on the slope going down from the 2nd floor they setup a long sprint with a sharp right turn at the end. Cool! I lost control twice on that turn. Bruised my ribs – but that won’t stop me.

Anyway, the race started at high noon and it was really hot! Good thing Quincy was up first (sorry pare). I remember steam rising off of his back when he went in for a driver change – it was really hot especially in a racing suit. He was followed by Jec then me then Willie.

When it was my turn to drive, after what felt like a hundred laps I came in for a driver change and to my surprise I only drove for 20 mins! Hahaha. I kid you not, it really gets your adrenaline pumping and with the racing helmet on, it felt really uncomfortable. All you can hear is yourself breathing and the engine of the go-kart. After a while, I could clearly hear my thoughts – weird. Its like your ear adapts to the noise of the engine so you block it out and in your head you only hear yourself. Something like that.

It took us 2-3 rounds of driver switches for the whole duration – 4 hours. Obviously we finished last but it was a GREAT experience. Our fastest lap time was by Quincy – 55 sec. The rest of us in our team got an average of 57 seconds. But the overall best lap time during the race was around 52 seconds! Amazing! Of course, that’s from the winning team. These guys really love to drive, a 2 man team driving in a 4 hour endurance race – 2 hours each! Whew!

Overall, it was a great experience. We ended it with 2 rounds of beer with a smile on our sweaty and stinky faces.

That’s us with our Bioman outfits.

I have a new found respect for race car drivers. Its not as easy at it looks and you need to be talented and work hard to develop the skills needed.

They have a new one coming up! Manila 701 Race. Its 701 laps – no limit to number of members in your team. Costs around Php45,000 and its a fun race. Drinks, food and entertainment from dusk till dawn. It will be on July 19 – 20 at CityKart. It will roughly take 12 to 14 hours to complete 701 laps – that’s why its expensive. A fun and crazy race simply means that they will be adding surprises on the racetrack. I’m not sure what they have in store for this one, but I heard last time that they were throwing balloons at you while you drove and there’s even a section of the track with foam or was it bubbles. Anyway, if you can put up a team of 10 then the race fee gets split to Php4,500 per person which is easier on the pocket right?

WOOHOO!!! Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao! Amazing fight! Knock out on the 9th round was spectacular. Freddie Roach predicted the 9th round and he nailed it big time. I actually felt a genuine concern for Diaz when he got knocked out – the slow motion replay showed a solid hit – you can’t deny it. A blur (even in slow-mo) and a wobbling head of Diaz left to right. That could have been deadly.

Mr. Pacman has proven himself once more with his excellent counter punching and now his right jab is stronger than ever. Good job! Mabuhay ang mga pinoy!

We woke up at around 10 in the morning on that rainy Sunday to try and catch the fight. We were planning to go to National Sports Grill to watch it live on the big screen. On our way to NSG, we saw this banner from Italiannis – weekend brunch buffet for Php655 only. It was like a spot light was directly pointing to this 5ft green banner. Excellent… Last Pacquiao fight, I recall watching it also at Italiannis where they also had a pay-per-view setup so everyone can watch it live. The place was probably 2/3 full – everyone probably had the same idea – eat all you can while watching the fight. Perfect! We were lucky to get a table right in front of the lcd monitor. When we sat down, the Pacquiao – Diaz fight was already starting – round 3. I was already hungry but I couldn’t take my eyes off the fight AND when I glanced on to the buffet table I also couldn’t take my eyes off the food! They had a decent variety of food types to choose from and it was brunch so you can choose between a heavy or light meal. Mmmmm…Anyway, the bell rang – 2 boxers back to their corners and that means that its my turn to fight! Food! I hurried to the buffet tables mainly because everyone was doing the same. It was a race to get as much food as you can and get back to your seat before the bell rings or else you’ll be risking tripping with a plate full of food.

For 655 bucks, I would recommend it – quality food with good variety.

Penne with meat sauce, fettuccine with meatballs, crusted fish, chicken, pizza, sausages, hotdogs, basked mussels and clams, seafood pasta, salads, and you can make your own pasta – decide on a number of ingredients that they have and they will cook it right in front of you. Even omelets – brunch remember?

For dessert, they have a chocolate fountain, some crepes, ice cream, bite size baked goodies, and many more. Good deal.

The actual cost plus vat and service charges will probably be around 755 per person.

Here are some pictures: (I wasn’t able to get some shots of the main dishes – sorry – si pacquiao kasi eh’)

Do you have that innate need for speed? Sick and tired of the 10-15 minute runs around the track?

City Kart Racing, located along bicutan service road is having a race on June 15, 2008. Not just any race – a 4 hour endurance race! If you’re coming from the north, like me – Makati, all you have to do is drive SAFELY and take south super highway. When you get to Bicutan exit, take it! Then go straight to the service road – City Kart Racing will be on your right, approximately 5-10 minutes (depending on the traffic) after you get off the highway.

The 4 hour endurance race is a bit pricey at Php 13,500 to register. BUT it comes with free breakfast and I think a t-shirt. (Ha ha ha). No worries, you can form a team of 2-6 drivers and you just split the fee – sweet deal huh? Besides, your team gets to drive for 4 hours straight!

You’ll need to work out a system of signals with your team to change drivers and be sure to go the little boys room before hitting the race. Its a great experience and I hope to see you guys there.

By the way, here’s their website: http://citykartracing.com/index.php I don’t think they update it regularly.

It’s not actually a cheap thrill coz it’s around P400, but I couldnt resist the idea of growing flowers in an egg. Pic below shows Arn checking out my shopping bag.

You can choose from a variety of egglings which contain seeds of either herbs like basil and thyme or flowers like lavander and petunia. I was thinking of getting basil thinking I can use it in my cooking… however, beauty won over substance. I chose to buy the lavander eggling.

It’s pretty simple:

1. Tap egg gently with a spoon, then once cracked you may use your fingers to create an opening as big as P10 coin.

2. Pour in the extra seeds found in the box.

3. Pour in water, I used around 1/4th of a cup

4. Place in a well-lighted area where sunlight can reach your eggling.

5. Patiently wait til it grows…

*** update***

After 3 weeks of water and sunshine!!! look at my eggling
