Water as an alternative fuel / gas to power our vehicles? Apparently, some people now claim that its possible. The video below will show an excerpt from Reuters about a Japanese company with big plans to put this on production right away. No need to talk about the performance yet because the fact that its powered by water is something that needs to be proved first. I do recall seeing an h2o powered car a few years back here in the Philippines along south super highway- so I’m not sure if we were first or if its another sad story involving our local inventors bringing their inventions else where due to lack of Government support and interest.

It makes sense because its actually hydrogen that is powering the engine – not exactly water. The technology is to extract the hydrogen from water and use that as fuel with a clean byproduct in the form of oxygen.

Personally, this is a good alternative – but I would rather see solar technology improved and applied simply because this resource according to modern science its unlikely that this will get depleted – or maybe it will after a gazillion years.

When we first started mining the earth – I’m pretty sure that those guys thought that we will never run out of it. So water is a bit tricky because we will definitely die without it. Think about this: “Every 15 seconds we consume about an Olympic size pool of gas just for transportation.” All I’m saying is that if we start using water as gas, it will be cheaper so naturally this will exponentially increase the number of vehicles on the road. Consumption will increase. More cars on the streets. Think about it.

We need to study this carefully. We need to analyze and project possible impacts on all sectors because one way or another something is gonna get affected. Maybe alternative fuels is not the problem, maybe alternative forms of transportation is the key.
